The Best Long Haul Truck Insurance for Making Good Time? Avoid These Roads

What are the most dangerous roads and highways in the country, the ones that make a trucking company owner glad he purchased long haul truck insurance? As a trucker you probably have your own list. Here at J.D Tanner & Associates, we have one as well.

In no particular order:

The 101/405 freeway interchange in the San Fernando Valley northwest of downtown Los Angeles is the worst freeway interchange in California. The only time it’s not congested is between, maybe, midnight and 4 a.m. How bad is it? It’s so bad that this interchange has the dubious honor of being the freeway with the highest travel time index rating in the country.

Interstate 95, Cross-Bronx Expressway near New York City has one of the worst bottlenecks in the nation. The area it traverses is one of the most densely populated in the nation. The road also offers long haul truckers the joy of navigating it without some important travel signs and roadway shoulders. Potholes also are numerous. If you don’t have cargo liability insurance for delicate goods in your trailer, this stretch of road will definitely have you wishing you did.

Thinking about driving to Las Vegas from Southern California? So is the rest of the state. Vegas is the most popular travel destination for Los Angeles-area residents and Interstate 15, the only interstate that will take you from Southern California to the gambling capital of the world is constantly full. Forget about traveling to Vegas in under two hours on a holiday weekend. Try six-eight hours if there are no accidents. The problem lies not only in the sheer number of people traveling along this interstate; it’s also the fact that I-15 northbound shrinks from five lanes to a mere two, once traffic reaches the high desert summit of the Cajon Pass.

Chicago’s Circle Interchange, is an ugly one. Consider single lanes and circular on-ramps along with the sheer number of fellow travelers around me as we make our way during rush hour at a tears-inducing 11 miles per hour. Driving through here really puts the “long” in “long haul.”
