As the owner of a small trucking company, you are all too familiar with the phrase, “anything that can go wrong, will” because it applies all too often to your business.
Sometimes drivers fail to show up for runs. Vehicles break down on the road. Drivers get lost. The weather acts up and delays a run (or two or several).
While you can’t stop Mother Nature from doing what she will, you can prepare for those things that will go wrong and by planning and preparing you can prevent some of them from ever occurring. At the least, if you know a wrong thing may happen, you can activate Plan B -- so long as you’ve set a Plan B up in the first place.
Below are some things we recommend you do to help manage your fleet and trucking business.
You need to be sure you have the right kind of commercial fleet insurance. This can vary depending on what kind of cargo you carry, where you carry it, where you pick it up, what state(s) you cross to deliver it, and so on.
We also recommend that you put a fleet management system in place. Whether you use one of the many fleet management software programs available or if you prefer to use a paper system, putting together a schedule for your trucks’ upkeep is critical. You’ll save time and money with a fleet management system. Your trucks won’t break down unexpectedly and you’ll better ensure on-time delivery for your clients.
A fleet management system also should include timely renewal reminders regarding your commercial fleet insurance coverage. Knowing that your insurance is up for renewal soon allows you to renew the premium on your current policies on time. Or, you may wish to search additional fleet insurance services to see if you might be better served by another insurance company. J.D. Tanner & Associates can help you with this.
We look forward to being of service: in helping you find fleet insurance services, fleet management systems, and more.
